Final League Placings
Tom Keenan won the inaugural IOMFGBC singles league from Clive McGreal in second place. Bernice McGreal secured third place on chalks while Lesley Keenan finished fourth. Congratulations to all the competitors who made this such a successful and exciting new competition.

Match Reports 18th July
Tom Keenan regained top spot with a good win over Matt Quayle, while Clive McGreal drops to second after an impressive performance by his opponent Brian Doherty who took the match despite McGreal’s late comeback. Doherty’s recent form moves him into third place in the league
Alistair Irving regained his form with a decisive 19-12 victory over Bernice McGreal. Another fine win for Joyce Ogden over Jimmy Sansom consolidates her league position. A display of steady consistent drawing by Michael Estella ensured the points against Diane Moore, while Lesley Keenan improved her league standing with a convincing win over James Teare.
Match Reports 11th July
Clive McGreal went to the top of the table after a fine win against Jimmy Sansom and is now in pole position for the Singles title after playing consistently all season. Tom Keenan drops to second place despite a comfortable victory over James Teare.
In a fine match for the spectators there was little to choose between Lesley Keenan and Diane Moore in the early exchanges, but Keenan started to pull away in the latter stages and took the match 17-12. Ken Edwards showed a return to form with an 18-11 victory over the battling Michael Estella. Joyce Ogden got off to a storming start against Alistair Irving and managed to maintain her lead for a fine 17-10 win. Brian Doherty consolidated his league position with an excellent 25-8 win over Matt Quayle.
Match Reports 4th July
Some fine weather and finely matched opponents led to some excellent matches this week at Onchan Park. Second placed Matt Quayle faced a difficult challenge from fourth placed Jimmy Sansom and Sansom pulled out all the stops to put himself back in contention with an emphatic win. Lesley Keenan played well throughout and needed three shots in the final end to take her match against Tom Keenan 19-18.
Bernice McGreal had another fine victory taking the points from Michael Estella in convincing fashion. A good night for the ladies was completed by Diane Moore who led from the start and took the points from Ken Edwards. In a close encounter Alistair Irving competed well in the early rounds but just faded at the business end of the match to allow Clive McGreal to run out the victor.
Match Reports 27th June
Brian Doherty got off to an excellent start against league leader Tom Keenan and managed to sustain the pressure holding a lead right up until the last couple of ends. It could have went either way in the final end but Keenan pulled ahead to take the tie 15-13. Matt Quayle produced the best bowls of the night putting Alistair Irving under relentless pressure. Irving found a steady length but could just not find the correct line while Quayle found the jack with consistency to take the match 19-9. Fight back of the night goes to Ken Edwards, who found himself well behind Lesley Keenan after the initial exchanges. Edwards managed to turn it around with a couple of big counts and was a comfortable winner in the end.
Another fine win by Bernice McGreal sees her climb the table after an impressive win over Diane Moore, McGreal now a serious title contender. In a one sided match Jimmy Sansom showed remarkable concentration to rack up a large points victory against James Teare. Sansom’s win puts him back in contention for the league.
Match Reports 20th June
Poor weather did not diminish the standard of bowling at Onchan Park in the singles league this week. Pick of the bunch was a fabulous comeback from Michael Estella against title contender Clive McGreal. McGreal started the match in excellent form building an impressive 10 shot lead and it appeared that there was no way back for Estella. Michael had other ideas and gradually chipped away at the lead till it was all square going into the last end. McGreal lay shot leaving Estella only a single wood left to make an impact and a perfect delivery took the shot back. A brave attempt by McGreal to salvage the situation with a controlled weight runner failed by only a fraction to hand Estella an unexpected victory.
In other matches Jimmy Sansom continued a fine run of form taking the points from league leader Tom Keenan 14-13. Bernice McGreal continues her rise up the table with an excellent 14-11 victory over Ken Edwards, while Lesley Keenan consolidates her position with a 16-13 win over Brian Doherty. James Teare had an impressive start against Alistair Irving but lost out in the end 16-12.
Match Reports 13th June
Match of the night was a nip and tuck battle between Bernice McGreal and Lesley Keenan, 2 players on the top of their form providing an excellent contest. Inevitably the match was decided by a single shot with the result going 13-12 in Bernice's favour. Joyce Ogden had a fine 16-11 victory over Ken Edwards. Matt Quayle put on an impressive performance against the ever improving Michael Estella and took maximum points.
Diane Moore put up a brave fight against Clive McGreal, both players struggling to master a difficult rink. Clive just managed to stay ahead despite a late fight back to claim a 19-14 victory. Tom Keenan remains at the top of the table taking the points in a good match against Alistair Irving on a difficult rink.
Match Reports 6th June
Match of the night saw league leader Clive McGreal face a difficult challenge against Ken Edwards, Clive maintained a narrow lead going into the last end and the contrasting styles made for a fascinating match. Ken's steady, drawing technique, paid off with the narrowest of victories 14-13. Another close contest saw several changes of lead till the latter part of the match, when Alistair Irving finally got the upper hand in his contest with Brian Doherty for a 19-11 victory.
Michael Estella established an early lead and never looked back for a comfortable victory over James Teare. Jimmy Sansom showed a return to form in his contest with Lesley Keenan, Jimmy captured a couple of big scores to hold a healthy lead and Lesley's late rally was not enough to deny Jimmy the points.
Match Reports 30th May
Some titanic struggles this week in the singles league threw up some very interesting and surprising results. Brian Doherty, joint league leader last week, faced newcomer Marilyn Legg and the early exchanges went with the form book as Brian built a lead. Marilyn however mounted a terrific fightback and all was to play for in the final end. The fightback continued, and Marilyn took the last end by 2 shots to run out a deserved winner.
Diane Moore, who has had an excellent start to the season, went into her match with James Teare as a firm favourite. James had other ideas however and produced his best form of the season to take the match 21-10. Tom Keenan had a narrow victory over the ever improving Michael Estella and Clive McGreal maintained his 100% record with a fine win over Bernice McGreal.
Ken Edwards and Matt Quayle put on a highly entertaining match that Ken just edged 14-11, while Jimmy Sansom lost out by a single point to Alistair Irving in a tense highly competitive match. Lesley Keenan consolidated her position in the top half of the table with a 15-11 victory over Joyce Ogden.
Match Reports 23rd May
High winds did not prevent this weeks matches taking place, but the difficult conditions added an extra level of difficulty for the players. Lesley Keenan played well against Alistair Irving and her consistent form paid dividends with a 16-8 win. Diane Moore got off to a good start against Tom Keenan and maintained her lead throughout for a comfortable 17-12 win. Clive McGreal continued his early season form with a decisive 26-10 victory over Joyce Ogden.
Ken Edwards mastered the conditions better than James Teare and this was reflected in the 27-11 score in Kens favour. Marilyn Legg got off to a good start and competed well in the early exchanges but faded in the end giving Jimmy Sansom a deserved 19-8 victory. Brian Doherty produced the goods again to continue his good run with a 18-10 win over Michael Estella.
Match Reports 16th May
Despite the terrible weather conditions on Monday evening, the players battled to produce some fine matches in the second round of fixtures in the Singles League. Michael Estella got off to a tremendous start in his match against Jimmy Sansom building a healthy lead in the opening exchanges. Jimmy had to change his technique to cope with the conditions and this eventually paid dividends as he he drew level and then pulled ahead to run out a comfortable winner.

Bernice McGreal played some excellent bowls against James Teare in a 17-8 victory, while Matt Quayle and Joyce Ogden put on a fine performance which Matt took 15-8. Brian Doherty continued his early season form with an impressive 17-9 win over Diane Moore. Alistair Irving handled the conditions better than newcomer Marilyn Legg and secured a fine victory.
Match of the evening was a titanic struggle between Lesley Keenan and Clive McGreal, both players putting on a display of excellent bowling with the outcome in doubt till the last few ends. The conditions played a decisive part in the final outcome with Clive coping better in the torrential rain picking up a couple of big counts in the latter part of the contest. Lesley dropped about six bowls, being unable to grip the woods in the deteriorating conditions. A fine 18-10 win for Clive, continuing his impressive early season form.
A quick word on the green, despite heavy rain falling throughout the entire day, the green played well and drained with no pools of water on any part of the surface. This is a result of the intensive close season maintenance plan carried out by Onchan District Commissioners staff, a big thanks to all involved.
Match Reports 9th May
The Singles League got underway on Monday evening with some with some fiercely contested matches, the pick of which, was the battle between Michael Estella and Alistair Irving. Fresh from a highly successful indoor season, Michael got off to a tremendous start building a comfortable lead. Alistair however showed great determination to put this early setback behind him and claw his way back into contention. A crucial 4 from Alistair meant all was to play for in the final end with the result in doubt till a measure on the final wood. In the end a draw was declared, a fair outcome for this engrossing match.
In the other matches an excellent win for Diane Moore over Jimmy Sansom, Diane led from the start with Jimmy unable to master the conditions. Joyce Ogden had a comfortable win over James Teare, while newcomer Marilyn Legg lost her first competitive match to Lesley Keenan. Clive McGreal got off to a winning start with a fine 21-17 win over Matt Quayle, while Brian Doherty started his campaign with an impressive 18-11 victory over Ken Edwards. Bernice McGreal got off to a great start against Tom Keenan winning the early exchanges but eventually Tom pulled it back to run out the winner in the end.
