2015 IOMFGBC Championship Finals
On Sunday the sun shone as the Ladies and Mens pairs competition got underway. The spectators including Chairman of Onchan Commissioners, were treated to excellent displays of bowling and some excitement as the Ladies Pairs match was a close call with the lead changing almost every end. Although there were fine bowling displays from Karen Slack and Barbara Reed the defending champions Pam Makin and Win Kewley maintained their focus and held on to their lead to claim the trophy for the second year running.
In the Mens pairs the experience of Clive McGreal and Phil Smith showed as they cruised to an early lead over Dave Moncaster and Gary Lee , however a brave comeback from Moncaster and Lee saw them reducing the lead held by McGreal and Smith but the initial lead built up against them was added to by more experienced pairing of McGreal and Smith who were worthy winners of the trophy.
On Saturday 5th of September the Mens Singles final was played out between Clive McGreal and Phil Smith, the winners of the Mens pairs the previous week. Clive got off to a good start building up a healthy lead and although Phil mounted a brave comeback, but it was Clive's day and he maintained his lead to take the trophy. There was some tremendeous bowls on display, plus a bit of a comedy moment from 'Five Bowl Phil"!
The following day it what was probably the match of the season Bernice McGreal and Pam Makin battled for the Ladies Singles trophy. Pam fresh from her win on the previous weekend in the ladies pairs was playing in her first Singles final. Throughout the match the pair were evenly matched and the spectators were treated to another nailbiting final where it proved impossible to predict the outcome. However after 23 ends with only one shot separating them Pam managed to score 2 shots with her final bowl to reach the required 21 shots and take the trophy. The appreciative spectators applauded both and congratulated them on providing an excellent afternoons bowling.
